Iquitos amazon jungle – 4D/3N
Adventure in the Peruvian jungle. Iquitos, the gateway to the Amazon rainfo...
Puerto Maldonado located in the Madre de Dios region, this destination offers an unforgettable experience of nature, biodiversity and Amazonian culture. Known as the “Heart of the Amazon”, Puerto Maldonado is the starting point to explore the Tambopata National Reserve and the Bahuaja-Sonene National Park, two protected areas that are home to an impressive diversity of flora and fauna. During your stay, you can enjoy activities such as jungle hikes, boat rides on Amazonian rivers, bird watching, meeting with indigenous communities and, if you are lucky, spotting iconic animals such as monkeys, jaguars and caimans.
Your guide will pick you up from the airport or bus station. Then you will go to our office based in Puerto Maldonado to register (passport number and flight number). Then, you will take the boat down the Madre de Dios River to reach our Lodge. After one hour by boat, you will arrive at the Lodge where you will receive a fresh exotic fruit juice. You will get your room key.
After a short rest, you will go for a two-hour walk through the jungle. Your guide will tell you about the lush vegetation (some trees are 500 years old). You will also have the opportunity to see birds (parrots, macaws), monkeys, snakes, butterflies… You will discover our wonderful jungle.
In the evening, you and your guide will go for a boat ride on the Madre de Dios River to look for caimans. You will observe the glowing red eyes of the caimans with a flashlight. You may also observe capybaras, the largest rodents in the world. They can weigh up to 60 kilos.
You will get up early (5:30 am) to reach a canopy and a Zip lining, which is 40m. high. From there you will be able to see different species of birds, such as macaws or eagles.
After breakfast, you will go to Monkey Island, which is right in front of our lodge. There you will see different types of monkeys. Then, you will take the boat again to reach the Tambopata National Reserve. After a five-kilometer hike, you will discover the incredible Sandoval Lake.
It is a real wonder, where you will see a great variety of animals, such as birds, monkeys, sloths … After a typical lunch, you will go for a boat ride on the lake to see the animals up close. If it is a lucky day, you may see giant otters (endangered animals) or very large black caimans (the largest recorded is five meters long).
After breakfast, you will hike through the jungle to reach a small river where you will fish for piranhas. You will return to the lodge for lunch and after a siesta, you will return to the jungle for a challenge.
You will experience zip-lining, tree climbing, etc. Of course, a specialist will be with you to tell you everything you need to know about safety to live a safe but exciting adventure.
