Humantay Lagoon is located in the Cusco region, in Peru. It is situated at an altitude of 4,200 meters above sea level. The lagoon is a popular tourist attraction due to its beautiful natural beauty and its location in the Andean mountains. It is formed by the accumulation of rainwater and snowmelt from the peak of Humantay mountain, which is located near the lagoon. The water of the lagoon is a turquoise color due to the refraction of light on the ice and snow that surround it. The lagoon is surrounded by snow-capped peaks and is a popular place for hiking and enjoying the natural beauty of the area.
Cusco - Challacancha - Soraypampa - Humantay Lagoon - Domes
Early in the morning, your mountain guide and our driver will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco. The first stop will be in Mollepata to have breakfast, then we will continue our route to Soraypampa to our domes Campsite, the domes have all facilities such as: hotel Mattress and bed ,toilets and private hot shower a balcony which face the amazing snow capped mountain of Salkantay and Huamantay from this point we will start our hike to Huamantay Lagoon. Remember that the domes check in is at Midday, so we leave our luggage at the reception and start our trek to Humantay Lagoon
We will trek for about 1 hour and 30 minutes from the domes to the Huamantay Lake, once we arrive to the Lagoon our guide will provide you an explanation about this sacred Lagoon, then you will have time to take pictures. Returning to the domes will take 1 hour 20 minutes walking down towards our Fantastic domes campsites, where our Chef will wait with a delicious lunch, during the night we will do a Bon fire so we can observe the Milky Way.
At night, a warm bonfire is held, contrasting with the cool air of the Salkantay and Humantay mountains. The fire casts an orange light that illuminates the camp, while the sky above opens up into a stunning display of stars. Free from light pollution, the Milky Way and thousands of stars shine clearly, creating a celestial ceiling over the tranquil Andean landscape of Soraypampa.
Soraypampa - Salkantay Pass - Cusco
Today is the big day, because we will reach the highest point of the trek where you will cross wonderful landscapes bordered by a large mountain complex, and gradually ascend a path known as “The path of the 7 snakes”, until we reach the impressive Abra Salkantay at 4,638 m.a.s.l. 15,213 feet. Time really freezes when you think you will have a unique and unforgettable experience. After enjoying a view of the snow-capped mountains and feeling the force of nature, we will cross a large rocky landscape and descend to a place called Soyrococha.
After descending towards Soraypampa and in the distance, we will have a remote view of the great snowy forest of stones. The effort is rewarding because we will take with us the memory of a great experience. We will continue with our final steps to the luxury Domos camp where we will have our Ceviche and Pisco sour Show togueter with a nourishing lunch Finally we will have time to Relax feeding and taking pictures of our alpacas and llamas, transportation to Cusco will be waiting and we will arrive at 6 pm approx.
